Audio, Video and Conference Room Installation in Northern Virginia
Even sound in every zone, meetings that start with one tap, and AV devices locked down on the network.
Good audio and video should go unnoticed: every zone sounds even, meetings start with one tap, and the speakers are not a way into your network.
This page is for offices, restaurants, stores, medical practices, gyms and homes adding conference room AV, background music, paging or whole-home audio. DistrictConnects designs the zones, installs the speakers, amplifiers, displays and cabling, and puts every networked AV device on its own secured segment.

Why audio and AV systems disappoint
Customers rarely notice good sound. They always notice bad sound, and they leave sooner because of it. These are the problems we find most often in offices, stores and restaurants:
- Hot spots and dead zones. Too few speakers, spaced unevenly, so one table is blasted while the next cannot hear the music.
- The wrong speaker for the ceiling. Drop-tile, drywall and open-deck ceilings each need a different speaker. The wrong one sounds thin or rattles.
- Overloaded amplifiers. On a 70-volt line, the speaker taps must add up to less than the amplifier’s rating (Rane on constant-voltage systems). Get it wrong and the amplifier clips or shuts down mid-shift.
- Speakers that vanish from the app. Streamers drop off weak Wi-Fi, or disappear when the network is segmented without the right discovery settings.
- Paging nobody can hear. Announcements are buried under the music because the system never lowers it.
- Default passwords and old firmware. Networked speakers and displays left on factory settings, sitting on the same network as the PCs and card terminals.
Most of these are cheap to get right during design and expensive to fix once the ceilings are closed.
AV installed by a network team
Modern audio and video equipment runs on the network, so we design it as part of the network, not as an accessory.
- Its own network segment. Streamers, amplifiers, displays and conference room devices are isolated from your PCs, payment terminals and patient systems, with only the traffic the apps need allowed through. Our networking and Wi-Fi team builds the segment.
- Meeting rooms that start on time. Microsoft Teams Rooms offers one-touch join and content sharing, and we set up the room accounts in your Microsoft 365 tenant.
- Cable done once. Speaker, HDMI, USB and network runs come from our structured cabling team, concealed, labelled and documented.
- Music licensing stays clear. Personal streaming accounts are for personal, non-commercial use (Spotify terms). We install the commercial music service you choose; the licensing decision stays with you.
What is included
Conference room AV
Displays, microphones, speakers and cameras sized to the room, set up for Microsoft Teams Rooms or Zoom, so remote attendees hear everyone at the table and local staff start a meeting without hunting for cables.
Background music by zone
Evenly spaced ceiling or pendant speakers for sales floors, dining rooms, lobbies and break rooms, split into zones with their own volume and schedule, so the fitting rooms or the stockroom are not as loud as the front.
Overhead paging
Paging across floors or zones that automatically lowers the music while someone speaks, with paging limited to the zones that need it and priorities set for urgent announcements.
Whole-home and outdoor audio
Multi-room audio with in-ceiling and in-wall speakers, a streamer or AV receiver for each zone, home theater with calibrated surround speakers, and patio and outdoor speakers, controlled from an app, remote or voice assistant.
Displays and digital signage
Wall-mounted displays for meeting rooms, lobbies and waiting rooms, and digital signage for menus, wayfinding or promotions, with power and data planned before anything goes on the wall.
Concealed cabling
Speaker wire, HDMI, USB and network runs pulled inside walls and ceilings by our cabling team, with no exposed wires, labelled at both ends and documented for the next change.
Network setup and security
Streamers, amplifiers, conference room devices and displays on their own network segment, default passwords changed, firmware updated, and discovery settings configured so apps still find the speakers across segments.
Tuning, schedules and training
Volume balanced across zones, music schedules and paging priorities set, staff controls limited to what they should change, and training on the app or wall keypad before we leave.
How the work runs
Site survey
We look at the ceilings, walls and room sizes, ask how each space is used and when, and check the network and closet the AV equipment will connect to.
Design and written quote
We lay out the zones, speaker and display positions, amplification and control, and send a written, itemized quote with the design attached.
Cabling
Speaker, HDMI, USB and network cable is pulled and concealed, ideally before ceilings and drywall close, or after hours in an occupied space.
Install
Speakers, amplifiers, streamers, displays, microphones and cameras are mounted and connected, with amplifier loads checked against the speakers on each line.
Connect and secure
AV devices join their own network segment, default credentials are replaced, firmware is updated and the control apps are tested from staff devices.
Tune, train and hand off
We balance each zone, set schedules and paging, run a test meeting in each conference room, train your staff and hand over the documentation.

Common questions
What does an audio and video installation include?
Design, wiring, installation and tuning. That covers speaker and display selection and placement, amplifiers and streamers, conference room microphones and cameras, concealed cabling, zone control, paging and the network setup that keeps it all secure and reachable from the control app. You get a design before work starts, and training and documentation when it ends.
What is the difference between residential and commercial audio?
A home system usually connects a few speakers per room to a streamer or AV receiver for music and movies, with matched low-impedance wiring. Commercial spaces use 70-volt distributed audio, which feeds many speakers from one amplifier over long cable runs, plus paging, scheduled volume and locked controls so staff cannot turn the dining room up to full. We design both.
Can our store or restaurant play music from a personal streaming account?
Generally no. Personal streaming accounts are licensed for personal, non-commercial use, and Spotify's terms say exactly that. Businesses usually need a commercial background music service or their own public performance licensing. We install and configure the commercial service you choose and connect it to the zones and schedules. The licensing decision and agreement stay with your business.
Can one system handle background music and paging?
Yes. The paging system is set to lower the music automatically while someone is speaking and bring it back afterwards. Pages can go to every zone or only to the ones that need them, such as the stockroom or the kitchen, and urgent announcements can take priority over everything else. Staff page from a phone, a desk microphone or the phone system.
Do networked speakers and conference room devices create security risks?
They can. Networked AV devices are small computers that often ship with default passwords and rarely get firmware updates. On a flat network, a compromised streamer or display can reach your PCs, payment terminals or patient systems. We put AV devices on their own segment, change every default credential, update firmware and allow only the traffic the control apps need.
Can you set up our conference rooms for Teams or Zoom?
Yes. We size the display, microphones, speakers and camera to the room, so people at the far end of the table can be heard and seen. For Microsoft 365 offices, Microsoft Teams Rooms gives one-touch join and content sharing from the table. We set up the room accounts, test a full meeting in each room and train your staff before handover.
How much does an audio or AV installation cost?
It depends on the number of zones and rooms, the ceiling and wall types, the speaker, amplifier and display choices, and how much new cabling is needed. A single-room upgrade costs far less than a multi-zone retail or office system with paging and several conference rooms. We do not publish prices. After a free on-site survey you get a written, itemized quote.
