Managed IT Services for Northern Virginia Businesses
Monitoring, patching, help desk and planning from one team, so problems get fixed before your staff notice them.
Managed IT means one team keeps your computers, accounts and network patched, watched and supported every month, so problems get fixed before they stop work.
It fits offices with no IT department, and offices where one person cannot cover the help desk, security and planning alone. DistrictConnects runs it from Herndon, remotely and on-site, with network devices monitored 24/7 and the team working 7 days a week, 7am to 7pm.
- 100+DMV businesses supported
- 24/7Monitoring of firewalls, switches and access points
- 7 daysTeam on hand every day, 7am to 7pm
What break-fix IT costs a small office
Under break-fix, help starts after something has already stopped work, and nobody is paid to prevent the next failure. These are the gaps we find most often when we take over an office:
- The same problems keep coming back. Slow logins, a printer that drops off, Wi-Fi that dies in the conference room. Each one gets a quick fix and nobody looks for the cause.
- Updates that never installed. Laptops months behind on Windows and app patches, firewalls and switches on old firmware. Known holes stay open long after the fix was released.
- Former employees who can still sign in. Nobody turned off the account, collected the laptop or moved the mailbox, so someone who left months ago still has email and files.
- Microsoft 365 left at its defaults. Microsoft runs the data centers, but your accounts, settings, data and devices stay your job under its shared responsibility model. Without MFA and conditional access, one phished password opens the mailbox.
- Backups nobody has restored from. The job reports success every night, but nobody has tried a restore, so the first real test happens during an outage.
- IT spending you cannot plan. Emergency hourly bills, a server that dies with no replacement budgeted, and licenses still paid for people who left.
A break-fix provider gets paid when something fails; a managed provider loses money when it fails, so the work goes into preventing it.
What changes when one team owns it
You get one number to call, one team that knows your setup, and a plan that looks further ahead than this week’s tickets.
- Planning, not just fixes. Quarterly business reviews and vCIO guidance turn ticket history, aging hardware and licensing into a roadmap and budget. See strategic IT consulting.
- Hands on-site when it matters. Wi-Fi, cabling, firewalls and printers often need someone in the room. We are based in Herndon and send a technician when a remote session is not enough.
- Security built in, not sold later. MFA, EDR, email filtering and firewall management are part of the service. For deeper work see cybersecurity and backup and disaster recovery.
- The building systems too. The same team runs your network and Wi-Fi, security cameras and access control as a Virginia DCJS licensed electronic security provider, so there is no second vendor to coordinate.
What is included
Help desk, remote and on-site
Staff call, email or open a ticket and reach an engineer who knows your setup. Passwords, permissions, Outlook, Teams, printers, VPN and Wi-Fi problems are handled over a secure remote session, and a technician comes on-site when the fix needs hands.
Monitoring and alerts
Firewalls, switches and access points are monitored 24/7 for status, performance and alerts. Servers and computers report disk space, memory, CPU, update status and security alerts, so a failing drive or a full disk is usually caught before it stops someone's work.
Patch management
Windows, macOS and application updates pushed on a schedule and checked for success, plus firmware updates on firewalls, switches and access points. You can see which devices are current instead of hoping automatic updates worked.
Onboarding and offboarding
New hires get their account, licenses, MFA, shared folders and a configured laptop before day one. When someone leaves, we block sign-in, end every session, hand the mailbox and files to their manager, reclaim the license and wipe or reissue the laptop.
Microsoft 365 administration
User and license management, security settings, conditional access, Teams and SharePoint permissions, and Microsoft 365 health checks. License reviews catch seats you still pay for after people have left.
Security management
MFA on every account, EDR on every managed computer, email filtering, firewall rule management, vulnerability scans and a written incident response plan. EDR runs on Microsoft Defender, CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Sophos or Bitdefender.
Backup monitoring and restore tests
Automated backups of servers, computers and Microsoft 365, watched for every missed or failed job. Restores are tested and documented, and you get a written recovery plan that says what comes back first.
Quarterly business reviews and vCIO
Every quarter we review tickets, security risks, licensing, hardware nearing end of life and your plans for hires, moves or a new office. The vCIO side turns that into a roadmap and a budget you can plan around.
How the work runs
Free assessment
We walk the office and review computers, accounts, network gear, backups and Microsoft 365 security settings. We ask what keeps breaking and what is coming up: new hires, a move, a compliance requirement or a cyber insurance renewal.
Findings and itemized quote
You get a plain-English list of what we found, ranked by risk, and an itemized quote for the monthly service plus any one-time fixes. Plans are month to month, with no long-term contract.
Onboarding
We install the monitoring and patching agents, take over admin access from the previous provider, document the network, accounts, licenses and vendors, and show your staff how to reach the help desk.
Close the urgent gaps
The riskiest items go first: MFA on every account, missing patches installed, old accounts of former employees removed, EDR deployed and a first backup restore tested.
Day-to-day support
Help desk, monitoring and patching run every week. Existing clients are covered by their SLA, from a 1-hour response to next day depending on the plan, and we come on-site when the work needs it.
Quarterly business review
Each quarter we go through what happened, what is aging out and what is coming, then update the roadmap and the budget with you, so purchases stop being emergencies.

Common questions
How much do managed IT services cost?
It depends on the number of users and devices, how many locations you have, your security and compliance needs, and the response level in your SLA. We do not publish prices, because two offices of the same size can need very different things. After a free assessment you get an itemized quote that shows what is included and what would be separate project work. Plans are month to month, with no long-term contract.
What is the difference between break-fix and managed IT?
With break-fix you call when something breaks and pay by the hour, so the downtime has already happened and nobody is paid to prevent the next failure. With managed IT one team monitors, patches and secures your systems every month for an agreed monthly fee. Many problems are found before staff notice them, and IT spending becomes something you can budget instead of a surprise.
Is managed IT worth it for an office of 10 people?
Usually, yes. A 10-person office rarely has anyone whose job is IT, so updates, account changes and backups fall to whoever is least busy, or to nobody. Managed IT gives you a team that covers help desk, networking, security and Microsoft 365 without adding a salary. You also get one number to call, instead of searching for help after something has already stopped work.
Can managed IT prevent ransomware?
No provider can promise that. What works is layers: MFA on every account, EDR on every computer, email filtering, prompt patching, tight firewall rules, and tested backups kept where ransomware cannot reach them. Together they make an attack much harder and make recovery possible without paying. We also write the incident response plan, so your team knows who to call and what to do first.
What hours do you work, and how fast do you respond?
Our team works 7 days a week, 7am to 7pm, and network devices are monitored 24/7. New inquiries get a reply the same day. Existing clients are covered by their SLA, which runs from a 1-hour response to next day depending on the plan. Most issues are fixed over a secure remote session, and we send a technician on-site when the fix needs hands.
What happens when an employee joins or leaves?
You tell us the start or end date and we handle the rest. A new hire gets an account, licenses, MFA, the right shared folders and a configured laptop ready for day one. When someone leaves, we block sign-in, end every active session, pass the mailbox and files to their manager, reclaim the license and wipe or reissue the device, so nothing stays open after they go.
What is a vCIO, and what happens in a quarterly business review?
A vCIO fills the planning role a Chief Information Officer has at a large company, as part of the service. In the quarterly business review we go through tickets and recurring problems, security risks, licensing, hardware nearing end of life and your plans for hiring, moves or new locations. You leave with an updated roadmap and a budget for the next 12 months.
We already have an IT provider. How does switching work?
It starts with the free assessment, so you see what we would change before you commit. Once you decide, we collect admin access, licenses and vendor contacts, install our monitoring and patching tools, and document everything as we take over. We plan the handover with your current provider so support does not lapse, and our plans are month to month, with no long-term contract.
