Endpoint Protection and Managed EDR for Northern Virginia Businesses
Behavior-based detection on every device, with threats isolated automatically and investigated by engineers you can call.
EDR watches what is actually happening on every laptop, desktop and server, and stops an attack while it is still in progress instead of after the files are encrypted.
It is for offices that still rely on signature antivirus, and for those whose insurer, clients or compliance framework now ask which EDR is deployed and who responds to its alerts. DistrictConnects deploys, tunes and manages EDR on Microsoft Defender, CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Sophos or Bitdefender, and our engineers investigate and contain what it finds.
- 82%Of 2025 detections were malware-free, per CrowdStrike
- 5EDR platforms we deploy and manage
- 10+Years of hands-on engineering
What antivirus cannot see
Signature antivirus fires only when a file matches something already known to be bad. Most modern attacks never give it that chance.
- Fileless malware. Code that runs only in memory and never writes a file for antivirus to scan.
- Living off the land. Attackers use tools already on every Windows PC, such as PowerShell, WMI and PsExec, so nothing looks foreign.
- Zero-day exploits. A new vulnerability has no signature until after it has been used against someone.
- Credential theft. Dumping passwords from LSASS memory, pass-the-hash and stolen sign-in tokens let attackers log in instead of breaking in.
- Ransomware staging. Reconnaissance, privilege escalation and lateral movement happen for days before the first file is encrypted.
- Trusted software turned against you. Supply chain attacks arrive through signed updates from vendors you already trust.
CrowdStrike reports that 82 percent of detections in 2025 were malware-free (2026 Global Threat Report), which is exactly where antivirus is blind.
Managed EDR, not just another agent
EDR software on its own produces alerts. Protection comes from someone tuning it, reading those alerts and acting on them.
- Every device, wherever it is. Laptops at home, in hotels and on job sites stay protected and can be isolated remotely, not only when they are on the office network.
- One team across the stack. Devices are enrolled with Intune, phishing is stopped by email security and the edge is covered by firewall management.
- Contained, then recovered. An isolated device is cleaned or rebuilt, and backups ransomware cannot reach cover what was lost.
- Proof on paper. Coverage and response reports give your insurer, clients and auditors evidence instead of a promise.
Endpoint protection is one layer of a wider plan; see our cybersecurity overview for identity, network and email controls.
What is included
Deployment on every device
Agents rolled out remotely to every managed Windows PC, Mac, Linux and Windows server, and to phones where the platform supports it. Every device, not just servers or the owner's laptop, starting from an inventory that finds the ones you forgot about.
Behavioral detection
Alerts on what attackers do, not just known files: Word launching PowerShell, a process reading LSASS memory, regular beaconing to newly registered domains, UAC bypass, PsExec, WMI or RDP used to move between machines, and new scheduled tasks or registry run keys.
Automated isolation
A device showing confirmed malicious activity is cut off from the network while it keeps talking to the security console. Malicious processes are stopped, persistence is removed and evidence is kept, wherever the laptop happens to be.
Alert triage and investigation
Our engineers review alerts, rebuild the attack timeline of what ran, where and when, decide what is real and clean up. An EDR tool whose alerts nobody reads gives false confidence, not protection.
Policies tuned to your office
Detection and prevention policies adjusted to your applications and the way your staff work, with exclusions kept to a minimum, so alert noise drops and line-of-business software keeps running.
Ransomware safeguards
Tamper protection so malware cannot switch the agent off, ransomware and attack surface reduction rules, and staff moved from local admin to standard user accounts.
Device control and hardening
USB and removable storage control, allow and deny lists for risky applications, and hardening for browsers and Office apps, applied the same way at every office and home desk.
Reports for insurers and auditors
Monthly reports on coverage, agent health, detections and response actions, plus patch visibility for Windows, macOS and common third-party apps. The evidence a cyber insurance application or a HIPAA or CMMC review asks for.
How the work runs
Inventory every device
We list every laptop, desktop, server, tablet and point-of-sale system that touches your data, including the old PC in the back room, and note what protection each one runs today.
Choose the platform
If you have Microsoft 365 Business Premium, Defender for Business is already licensed. Otherwise we recommend CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Sophos or Bitdefender based on your size, budget and compliance needs, and keep what you have when it fits.
Deploy and verify
Agents go out remotely without interrupting work, old antivirus is removed cleanly, and we confirm every device checks in healthy. The timeline depends on the number and type of devices and comes with the quote.
Reduce risk fast
Tamper protection and ransomware safeguards switched on, local admin rights removed, and encryption and MFA confirmed on every device.
Tune the policies
After deployment we tune detections and exclusions to your software, so real threats stand out and your staff are not interrupted.
Monitor, respond and report
The platform isolates confirmed threats automatically at any hour. Our engineers investigate, clean up and follow up 7 days a week, 7am to 7pm, and you get a monthly report.

Common questions
What is EDR and how is it different from antivirus?
Traditional antivirus matches files against a list of known malicious signatures. If a threat is new, uses legitimate Windows tools or runs only in memory, antivirus has nothing to match. EDR, endpoint detection and response, watches device behavior continuously: unusual process chains, credential theft, lateral movement and ransomware staging. It can isolate the device, stop the attack and show exactly what happened, whether or not a signature exists.
Do we need EDR if we already have antivirus and a firewall?
Yes. A firewall protects the edge of your network, but laptops leave the office, attacks arrive by email and cloud sign-in, and a firewall never sees what runs on the device. Antivirus catches known malware but not the hands-on techniques attackers now prefer. EDR covers the device itself, wherever it is, and works alongside your firewall, email security and MFA rather than replacing them.
What does managed EDR include?
Deployment and configuration of agents on every managed device, policy tuning to cut false alarms, automated isolation of confirmed threats, alert triage and investigation by our engineers, cleanup and follow-up, and monthly reports for your records and your insurer. The platform responds automatically at any hour, and our team works 7 days a week, 7am to 7pm. Existing clients are covered by their SLA, from a 1-hour response to next day.
Which EDR platform should we use?
We deploy and manage five: Microsoft Defender, CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Sophos and Bitdefender. If you have Microsoft 365 Business Premium, Defender for Business is already included and works directly with Intune, which often makes it the natural choice. Offices with servers, compliance requirements or an existing platform may be better served by another. We recommend one after looking at your devices, licensing and budget.
Is EDR required for cyber insurance?
Many cyber insurance applications now ask whether EDR is deployed on every device, which product it is and who responds to its alerts, and some carriers will not accept antivirus alone. Requirements differ by carrier and policy, so check your own application. We give you the coverage reports and documentation that show EDR is deployed, monitored and managed, so your answers are accurate.
Will EDR slow down our computers?
It should not when it is deployed properly. Modern EDR agents are lightweight, and most slowdowns come from two security tools fighting each other or from scans clashing with heavy software. We remove old antivirus cleanly, tune exclusions for your line-of-business applications and check performance with your staff after rollout.
How long does an EDR rollout take?
It depends on the complexity of the job, and you get the timeline with the quote. Agents are deployed remotely and do not interrupt work, though older machines, servers and devices that rarely connect can take longer. Policy tuning continues as we learn what normal looks like in your office. Larger or multi-site organizations get a phased plan agreed at the start.
How much does managed EDR cost?
It depends on the number of devices and servers, which platform fits, whether you already own Defender for Business through Business Premium, and how much cleanup the current setup needs. We do not publish prices. After a free assessment you get an itemized quote that separates the platform license from our management. Plans are month to month, with no long-term contract.
